1st Yr Basketballers- Bronze Medallists in All-Ireland Blitz in UL

May 10, 2023

All in the College are so very proud of our 1st Year Basketball Team and their Bronze Medals in last weekend’s All- IrelandBlitz
On Saturday, the 1st years kicked off the tournament with a 45-27 win over the Jes from Galway and followed this up with a magnificent performance against St. Malachy’s of Belfast with a 49-44 win after double overtime. These exertions took their toll on the Pres boys as they lost their final group game by a basket, 36-34, to Crosshaven from Cork, but still qualified as group winners.
On Sunday, the boys faced off against Adamstown in the All Ireland Quarter Final and came out easy winners by a score line of 40-24, which earned them place  in the semi-final against St. Mary’s CBS, Portlaoise. Unfortunately, it was a bridge too far for the Pres boys, who fought valiantly but went down by a score of 45-30.
Well done to all the squad and their coaches Marie O’Toole, Shane Davidson and Eoin Flatley
On another note their coach Marie was presented with the Basketball Lifetime Achievement Award 2023 for her outstanding contribution to schools basketball over the years. Hopefully a photo or two to follow!
